Day 14 — The Soft Close

This is the most important lesson in the module. If you only memorize one script, memorize this one.

Two weeks of silence. Most owners send another reminder. Don't. Send this instead.

Day 14 soft close
Hey [name] — totally understand if the timing didn't work out on this one. Should I close your file, or are you still considering? Either answer is fine — I just don't want to keep your spot held if you've moved on.

Why it works

This is reverse psychology in script form. Most local business owners are too scared to ask 'should I close this?' — they think it sounds like giving up. It does the opposite. Two things happen at once:

  1. People who were always going to ghost will close themselves out. That frees up your headspace and your calendar.
  2. People who were genuinely on the fence will panic-reply 'no no, let's do it' — because they suddenly feel they're about to lose you.

About 30% of 'dead' quotes recover from this exact message. It's the single most underused line in local business — because it requires the confidence to risk a 'no'.

Why owners resist sending it

  • It feels like you're giving the customer permission to say no.
  • It feels like you're admitting defeat.
  • It feels lower-status than 'just checking in'.

All three feelings are wrong. Scarcity converts. The owner who says 'I just don't want to keep your spot held' sounds in-demand. The owner who sends a fourth 'just checking in' sounds desperate.

Send by text if possible. The 'either answer is fine' line lands much warmer in a text bubble than in an email.
