Google Business Profile Posts

Why GBP Posts Matter

When a homeowner Googles "AC repair near me" at 11pm on a 95-degree night, Google doesn't show them ten websites. It shows them a map, three businesses in a box, photos, reviews, and — if you've done the work — recent posts from those businesses showing they're alive, active, and the obvious choice.

Most of your competitors haven't done that work. Their Google Business Profile (GBP) is a half-filled form from three years ago. That gap is your opportunity.

Why GBP posts are high-leverage

  1. You're publishing directly on Google. No SEO required for distribution — the post shows up the moment you hit publish.
  2. Most competitors don't bother. A business that posts weekly looks 10x more legitimate than one that hasn't posted in six months.
  3. It's free. Costs you 5 minutes and a phone photo.

What is a Google Business Profile post?

A GBP post is a short update you publish directly on your business's Google listing. It shows up in two places that matter: Google Search results when someone searches for your business name or a related local search, and Google Maps when someone clicks on your business pin.

Each post can include text (up to 1,500 characters, but only the first ~80 are visible without expanding), one or more photos or a video, and a call-to-action button (Call, Book, Learn More, etc.).

Think of GBP posts as the "front porch" of your Google listing. If someone's checking you out, this is what tells them you're open for business and worth their call.

The 5 reasons GBP posts actually matter

  • They influence local rankings. Google rewards active profiles. Posts are a freshness and activity signal that — alongside reviews, citations, and your website — feeds into the local pack rankings.
  • They build trust at the moment of decision. When a homeowner is comparing three plumbers, the one with a recent post showing real work wins. The other two look dormant.
  • They give every search a call to action. Every post can include a button — Call now, Book online, Get a quote — so every visitor is one tap from contacting you.
  • They surface your photos. Posts let you publish photos with context — before-and-afters, tech installing equipment, your crew on a job site — and these get added to your overall photo gallery too.
  • They're free differentiation. Most home services businesses in any local pack have no recent posts. Posting weekly puts you above 80% of your local competitors with zero ad spend.
