How to Get Your Local Business Recommended by AI
Lesson 6 of 86 min read

Week 3: Authority Footprint (Days 15–21)

Goal: Show up everywhere AI looks.

9. Get listed in 5–10 directories

Use the exact same business name, address, and phone number on each one. Consistency matters as much as presence.

  • Yelp
  • Angi
  • Thumbtack
  • Nextdoor business page
  • Facebook business page
  • Better Business Bureau
  • HomeAdvisor (if relevant to your trade)
  • Local chamber of commerce site
  • Google Business Profile (verify it's complete)

In every directory bio, include your specialty + city. "Weekly lawn maintenance in Longmont" or "Emergency HVAC repair in [city]."

10. Plant mentions in community spaces

This is the sneaky high-leverage move most owners miss.

  • Nextdoor: Post 1–2 helpful comments per week answering relevant neighbor questions. Don't sell. Help. "If anyone needs reliable weekly lawn maintenance in Longmont, I have a few openings — happy to give a free walk-through estimate."
  • Local Facebook groups: Same approach. Helpful, casual, conversational. Mention your specialty + city naturally.
  • Local subreddits: "What's a reliable [trade] in [city]?" threads are gold. Comment honestly, mention what you do.

These mentions feed AI training data more than people realize. AI scans Reddit, Nextdoor mirrors, public Facebook posts. Every time someone says "Dave's has been mowing my lawn for two years" in a public space, that's a signal.

By the end of Week 3, your business name + your specialty + your city should appear in 15–20 places across the public web.
