Facebook & Instagram for Service Businesses
Google is the highest-leverage channel, but Facebook and Instagram each have specific strengths for local service businesses. This lesson covers what works on each — and how to do it without spending hours online.
Facebook: Your Community Platform
Facebook is where local service businesses often have the most genuine reach — because their existing customers and community are already there.
- Before & after photo posts — high save and share rate. People tag friends with the same problem.
- 30-second walkthrough videos — Facebook's algorithm heavily favours video, and local videos get strong organic reach.
- "We're hiring" posts — reach a local audience fast, and signal that the business is growing and legitimate.
- Seasonal tips posts — "3 signs your AC needs a check before summer." Educational, shareable, builds authority.
- Customer shoutouts (with permission) — social proof in action, and the customer often shares it to their own network.
Facebook Groups tip: posting in local community groups (not the business page) often outperforms a business page post by 10x. Search for "[City] Community," "[City] Homeowners," or "[City] Neighborhood" groups. Share a useful before & after with a genuine caption — not a sales pitch.
Instagram: Visual Proof for the Next Generation of Customers
- Carousels — swipeable before/after carousels get the highest save rates on Instagram. First image is the after to hook; second or third is the before reveal.
- Reels — 15–30 second walkthrough videos using the formula from Lesson 3. Use the caption tool in Instagram for text overlays.
- Stories — quick, casual updates. "Just finished this in [neighborhood]" with a before/after swipe. Save them to a Story Highlight ("Our Work") for permanent proof.
- Link in bio — Instagram doesn't allow links in posts. Always direct people to "link in bio" and make sure that link goes to your booking page.
Recommended Posting Cadence (Realistic for Busy Businesses)
- Google Business Profile — 1 post/week + 2–4 photos. Highest priority. Skip nothing else before this one.
- Facebook Business Page — 2–3 posts/week. Before/after + 1 educational or community post.
- Facebook Groups — 1–2 posts/week. Rotate through local community groups.
- Instagram — 2–3 posts/week. Best for Reels and carousels — quality over quantity.
